The Good and the Bad in an Internet Marketer’s Email Inbox

An exciting thing about being an Internet marketer is that one never knows what one’s email inbox might hold.

On the positive side, here are three things from my inbox today:

  • Jennifer Thieme, a QuickBooks consultant, responded to my email message asking what people thought of the new email format I used. She replied: “I like the new format. You have a lot of great tips and I am glad I signed up for your newsletter. I also REALLY liked your Power of 3 ebook.”

And because of this I asked her if she’d be willing to write a testimonial for the Power of 3 ebook. She said yes, and you can check out the testimonial now.

  • Google Alerts informed me of the use of my name Phyllis Zimbler Miller. I clicked on the link to discover Elizabeth Glagowski of 1to1media.com had written about my experience with @StaplesTweets and linked to my blog post about this experience. See her post “Is Twitter the Next Customer Service Hot Spot?”
  • Our company client Chuck Hendershot sent me a link to his video blog post interviewing real estate agents at an all-day real estate workshop. I was incredibly impressed by how compelling and informative this video is. Watch it yourself now.

Now on to the unpleasant surprises. Here’s the first part of an email from our hosting company:

“Our System Administration team has discovered your email or account appears to have been compromised and used to send email advertising Viagra from websites in Hungary.”

First, we’ve dealt with this immediate problem and we’ll probably do some more. Second, I want to use this as a warning to others.

The email compromised belonged to our site www.MrsLieutenant.com — the book site of my novel. We originally had the site built by someone else. Then my business partner Yael K. Miller did a new site using WordPress. Only problem is that we kept the original password for the email for this site even though we changed the password for the site itself.

If you’re reading this blog post, consider whether any of your email accounts may be vulnerable to such hacking. If so, change your email passwords right now!
